Analytics

This site does not currently run any client-side analytics or tracking script. Traffic is measured only in aggregate, at the hosting level, by the site's CDN provider.

ZIP price checker

Looking up a ZIP code happens entirely in your browser, against a static file — no ZIP code you enter is sent to, or logged by, any Wood Heat Index server.

Price submissions

If you submit a price you paid for firewood, we store the price and the details you enter (date, seasoning, delivery, etc.) so a human can review it. We do not store your IP address in a readable form — only a salted cryptographic hash of it, used solely for basic rate-limiting and abuse detection, never to identify you. We do not require an account, an email address, or any other personal information to submit a price.

Accepted submissions are pooled with other submissions for the same county before they can affect a published estimate — no individual submission is ever published or attributed on its own.

Advertising

This site does not currently display any advertising. If and when it does, this page will be updated to name the network and disclose whatever cookies or tracking it introduces, before it goes live.

Data sources

The estimates themselves are built from public government data (Census, HUD, NOAA, EIA) and published state surveys — see the methodology page for the full list, with source URLs and access dates. None of that is personal data.
